SPECTACULAR OIL FIRE: ENGLAND - Britain's biggest peacetime oil fire ever—12,000,000 gallons going up in smoke at Avonmouth—presents a spectacular sight, and a dangerous one, as firemen fight the stubborn oil blaze through the night. / SNYDER OPENS BOND DRIVE: GRAND RAPIDS - Treasury Secretary John Snyder arrives to spark opening of nation's greatest bond drive since the war. Organized labor stages a mammoth float parade in connection with opening. / THE LONG ROAD HOME: GERMANY - Hundreds of German youngsters, homeward bound from the communist World Youth Festival in Berlin, present a sorry sight as they file through Helmstedt before returning to their homes in West Germany. 3. WAR'S END 48 NATIONS SIGN JAP TREATY: SAN FRANCISCO - The Pacific War comes to an official end, six years after, as forty-eight nations sign a peace treaty with Japan. Russia's Gromyko and his communist stooges walk out after taking parliamentary beating from the allies.
