Human waves of Chinese are moved down by Allied guns. 2. SUPER AIR SPEEDSTER: CALIFORNIA - The X-1-A launched from a B-29 glides down until its rocket motor takes hold. Unofficially it is believed to reach twice the speed of sound. / HOTEL BLAZE: NEW JERSEY - Flames raze one of Atlantic City's oldest resort hotels in a spectacular fire that brings about the rescue of four trapped guests. / VAN FLEET RETIRES: WASHINGTON, D.C. - The distinguished four-star commander of the Eight Army in Korea, is accorded full military honors as he retires after thirty-seven years of service. / GOMPERS MEMORIAL: ARIZONA - The Gompers Memorial hospital for crippled children is dedicated at Phoenix―an institution erected by the American Federation of Labor. / THE PRESIDENT: WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Eisenhower welcomes four-year-old Judith Rasheta as she comes to the White House to sell him the first poppy of the V.F.W. charity drive. He also signs his bond application for former screen star Mary Pickford, for the bond-a-month drive. 3. SIGNS OF SPRING - Anglers swarm the Finger Lake region of New York as the trout season opens and the big ones were biting. In New York City, that harbinger of spring, the circus to town with a bigger and more thrilling show than ever. Out in the State of Washington, spring mud is here, and the motorcycle racers seem to dote on it and wallow in it. Yep, spring is practically here.
