In sight is final conquest of the dread crippling disease. 2. THE CITADEL HONORS IKE: CHARLESTON, SC - President Eisenhower receives an honorary degree from an old friend and comrade in arms, Gen. Mark Clark, now president of South Carolina's military college, The Citadel. An impressive review of the corps of cadets concludes the ceremony. 3A/B. Truman throws out the first ball, as Connie Mack, inseparably associated with the team's name looks on, and Kansas City makes its first entry in the record books an auspicious one, beating Detroit, 6-2. / CHAMPION GYMNASTICS: GERMANY - Top stars from 19 nations including Russia and the Iron Curtain countries vie for the European Gymnastic Championships.
