Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. NEW GUIDED MISSILES: AT SEA - The Navy tests its newest guided missiles, even as high-level controversy rages over the "push-button" weapons. Launched from shipboard is the Regulus–looking like a stub-winged pursuit ship. With long range and an atomic warhead, it extends a naval unit's striking range vastly. 2. CONNIE MACK DIES - As America mourns the passing of Connie Mack, "Mr. Baseball," at the age of 93, we look back through the years to highlight scenes of his unequaled sports career, than spanned the history of the game from its very beginning, and made Cornelius McGillicuddy a sports legend in his own lifetime. 3A/B/C. FORMOSA FROGMEN: FORMOSA - Chinese Nationalist trainees undergo a rigorous conditioning program under the supervision of U.S. advisors, to qualify for underwater demolition duties. Only 1 in 7 qualify for the hazardous service. / SALUTE TO BENNY GOODMAN: CHICAGO - Civic officials, social leaders, and stars of the entertainment world gather for a "Salute To Benny Goodman Dinner," raising funds for the famed settlement, Hull House. Next night, the King of Swing's 2-day homecoming celebration culminates with the premiere of his film biography, U-I's "The Benny Goodman Story." Steve Allen, who portrays the clarinet star, Benny Goodman himself, and a host of notables are on hand for the gala occasion. / NICE CARNIVAL: NICE - Carnival comes to Nice, a gargantuan celebration with a typical Gallic flair. Throngs lining the huge parade's line of march are swept into the merry-making, as the pleasure capital of the French Riviera continues its centuries-old tradition of pre-lenten gaiety. 4A/B. OLYMPIC FINALE: ITALY - Winter sports with the ultimate in skill and finesse takes the spotlight as the 1956 Winter Olympics draws to a close. Record leaps in the ski-jump are performed with superb form, an ease and grace that makes one of the most exacting sports feats seem one of the easiest. / PALM SPRINGS' RODEO: PALM SPRINGS - A unique and amazing set-to between cowhand and Brahma bull makes Palm Springs' 16th annual Rodeo more than a thrilling sports event. It's one of those rare occasions in sports they'll be talking about for years to come, the toss-up of a lifetime.
