Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. IKE TO RUN - The President announces his decision to run for re-election to G.O.P. leaders during a conference at Gettysburg College, and the Republican bandwagon starts to roll, with the return of Vice-President and Mrs. Nixon from their round-the-world tour, and the New York launching of one of six official campaign units. 2A/B/C/D/E. BIT JETS ON SMALL CARRIERS - The Navy operates its newest, hottest, jets from an Essex-class carrier–a spectacular air exhibition that reveals how new landing techniques enable smaller carriers to handle jets designed for Forrestal-class super-carriers. / SHRINERS PARADE in Detroit, 10,000 strong. Harold Lloyd, Mayor Cobo of the Motor City, and Governor Mennen Williams are among the V.I.P.’s but the antics and intricate drill patterns make the show. / ALPINE ‘COPTER RESCUE - The helicopters’ ability to eliminate the inaccessible makes it a guardian angel to injured climbers atop Mont Branc, airlifted them down from a lofty hostel. / JUGGERNAUT FESTIVAL - Half a million Hindu pilgrims gather for the festival of Jaganatha–Hindu Lord of the World, known to us as Juggernaut. The enormous shrine is pulled through the thronged streets on a cart of many wheels–an inexorable force that gives meaning to the word. / VENEZUELA INDEPENDENCE WEEK - Venezuela celebrates its 14th year of independence with a week of parades, sports exhibitions and other observances that mark the red-letter event for the thriving nation. 3A/B. SPORTS — PLAYER OF THE DECADE - Stan “The Man” Musial receives a grandfather clock trophy to mark his selection as Baseball’s Player of the Decade. Bob Feller makes the presentation in Washington, D.C. / CALGARY STAMPEDE - Canada’s great annual salute to the Wild West is bigger and more exciting than ever, with broncos and bulls fiercer and ornerier than even the toughest rodeo hand cares for. But it makes a wonderful show—and no one’s really hurt—but what a shake-up!
