Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. IKE AT PANAMA MEETING - President Eisenhower meets with the heads of 17 American nations in Panama, a two-day Presidents' Conference that culminates with a five-point declaration of common ideals reaffirming the unity of the Western Hemisphere, and highlighted by Ike's proposal of an inter-American atom development plan. 2. OPERATION ALERT - A full-scale mock air raid tests the nation's civil defense preparedness. 75 key targets are hit by mock H-bomb raids, as the populace takes shelter. Estimates of defense effectiveness are secret except for New York City–where it is estimated over 4 million would have died in a real raid. 3. JAPAN ENTERS AIR AGE - Japan's small air defense force is catapulted into the air age with the arrival of American F-86 Sabre jets. Assembled by U.S. and Japanese technicians, they carry the Nipponese insignia aloft, an important new alignment of power in the Orient. 4. IOWA COED NAMED "MISS UNIVERSE" - An Iowa coed, 20-year-old Carol Morris is chosen Miss Universe from seventeen of the world's most beautiful girls, in Long Beach, California. 5. MOTOR MANIA - Motorcycles and auto daredevils stage a hair-raising show in Chicago. The sensational group has just returned from a 76-city tour of Europe, and they're the wildest seen in these parts for some time.
