Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. HOLIDAY GIFT TIDE ENGULFS TIRELESS POSTAL WORKERS: CHICAGO, IL - Christmas greeting cards and gift packages jam the Van Beuren Street station to capacity. All mechanical devices, carriers and sorters run at full tilt, to meet the heavy demands of Yuletide business. Employees, pushed to overtime duties, dispose of 70,000 sacks a day, an average of a million individual parcels. The job is attacked with vigor and the task completed without error — but how they work! 2. IMPERIAL ARTILLERY HONORS ANNIVERSARY OF OATH TO REPUBLIC STOCKERAU, AUSTRIA - The once crack royalist unit, now a vital part of the new government’s army, observes the birthday of its new-sworn allegiance, and wins the admiration of officialdom by its skillful and spectacular maneuvers. Minister of War Vaugoin, impressed by the display, presents the brigade with a new trumpet, an ancient custom equivalent to a decoration for gallantry. The battery accepts the gift with a colorful ceremony that climaxes the vivid event. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 3. HOLLYWOOD, CA - Tom Mix wins battle for life! — Thousands of fan letters help famous screen star conquer dangerous illness. 4. NEW YORK, NY - Novels for a nickel! — New invention by Admiral Fiske startles book-publishing world. 5. CHICAGO, IL - Fashion decrees finger-waves for men! — Male models display latest in masculine hair-styles — whoops! 6. SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Autogiro “Mercury” delivers 1932 greetings! — Novel plane parks itself in the heart of metropolis. 7. CO-OPERATIVE HOBO COMMUNITY RISES IN HEART OF GREAT CITY: NEW YORK, NY - Near the very center of the nation’s metropolis, the richest city in the world, a unique settlement develops. Reminiscent of squatter days on the old frontiers, a ramshackle town of discarded packing cases, and other odds and ends, grows up. Weary “world-travelers” find it to their advantage to merge in a common cause for their mutual welfare. A huge commissary dishes out a real “mulligan stew,” and the Charlton Street dump becomes the headquarters of the “jungle” fraternity. 8. IL DUCE PRESENT AT CATHEDRAL WEDDING OF AIDE’S DAUGHTER: VATICAN CITY - (Exclusive Pictures!) On his second visit to St. Peter’s, and his third to the Papacy Province, Premier Benito Mussolini acts as a witness to the marriage of Maria Ciano, daughter of Count Ciano, Minister of Communications. The recent rift between the Italian government head and Pope Pius XI is forgotten during the brilliant rites at the ancient Basilica. 9. HOMES DESERTED AS CITIZENS FLEE PERILS OF FLOODED STREAMS: KENOVA, AR - (First Pictures!) Heavy rains the swell the Ouachita River, Smackover Creek and other tributaries of the Mississippi, beyond the flood banks, cause the entire lowland regions of this state to become inundated. Breasting the rising waters, residents of the valley regions climb to higher places for safety, and drive their endangered cattle through the flooded trails ahead of them. Highways are under 40 inches of water; and, railroads undermined and threatened with derailment as the mounting danger increases. Rescuers brave the swift-moving tide to aid their helpless neighbors. An epic of the great Southland.
