Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. WEEPING KIN ESCORT FALL TO U.S. PRISON TO BEGIN BRIBE TERM: EL PASO, TX - Exclusive Pictures of the former Secretary of Interior starting on the 400-mile auto trip to Santa Fe and the jail he helped build when he was a power in southwestern politics. Broken in health he is forced to make the journey in an ambulance, clad in pajamas. He is to serve a year and a day for accepting money in connection with government oil leases. Accompanied by his personal physician, who pronounced him unable to stand the confinement, and his niece, Martha Fall, he speeds to the penitentiary to commence his sentence. 2. NEW BRANDING PLAN ELIMINATES DANGER OF INFANT MIX-UPS: BROOKLYN, NY - There will be no muddles at the Shore Road Hospital in this city such as occurred in Chicago when the Bambergers and the Watkins got confused and combatant last summer over their young ones. Here the babies and their mothers are marked with a new sort of violet-ray stamp which stencils identifying initials. 3. SURGING MOBS AWED BY “MIRACLE” IMAGE COPS SOLVE MYSTERY: CHICAGO, IL - Thousands of curious throng the city’s west side to see the spectacle of a “phantom” cast on the blank wall of a building. Police, taxed to the limit to control the great gathering, accidentally discover that the “ghost,” which resembles a Madonna, is nothing but a reflection from a fancy curtain in the home of Sam Genna, a member of a once notorious underworld family. The shade was ordered drawn, permanently. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. ROME, ITALY - Stimson feted on visit to Capital! — Secretary of State takes day off from German Relief Plan duties. 5. PORT WASHINGTON, NY - Aquaplanists become equilibrists! — Sea-going acrobats in thrilling marine contortions. 6. MT. PLEASANT, MI - 9 dead, 35 hurt, in oil-well blast! — Fatal mystery explosion occurs as 2,600-barrel gusher comes in. 7. SAN DIEGO, CA - Canine queen worth $20,000! — Rare Mexican breed, the last of her race, has a tail like a lion and wears bangs. 8. MILITARY SPLENDOR MARKS MAGNIFICENT BASTILLE DAY SHOW: PARIS, FRANCE - Admiring multitudes thrill at the historic pageant in celebration of the national festival. A colorful parade, in which the great colonial armies of the past are represented, is the climax of the holiday. President Paul Doumer, members of his cabinet and high foreign dignitaries review the picturesque procession. 9. MACHINE GUNS DROP FROM SKY IN TEST OF NEWEST WAR TERROR: RANTOUL, IL - Army demonstrates the parachute in a new offensive maneuver. The gunners leap from speeding planes, followed by their weapons, and drift slowly to earth, setting up an entire battery behind the “enemy” lines. High military officials who view the innovation are impressed by its effectiveness.
