It is the first of two steamers the country plans to float in its effort to corner the commercial trade of the Atlantic. The huge vessel is 872 feet long with a gross tonnage in excess of 50,000. 2. AIR FREIGHT CARRIES STRANGE CARGO ON INAUGURAL FLIGHT: KANSAS CITY, MO - The first delivery line of the skies is opened with an odd assortment of items listed in the hold of the ship. The route from New York to the Pacific Coast is planned to revolutionize the business. Among the queer “passengers” are found a Poland China pig, a crate of chickens, and a shipment of eggs. 3. ¼-MILE WOODPILE PROVIDES WORK FOR ENTIRE COMMUNITY: PURDYS, NY - More than 2,000,000 feet of birch, beech and maple logs are prepared for the factory where employees convert them into paper pulp food dishes. Heavy and powerful machinery must give way to the human hand when the actual processes are commenced and jobs are furnished to the whole town as the industry again hums. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. ST. Colorfully bedecked canoes and floats mark the unique procession participated in by government officials, workers and factory owners. The beautiful Charro and China Poblana dresses are displayed and the citizenry are red to buy them, as well as other home-made products. 9. SILK MILL’S STRIKERS MIX WITH POLICE IN FURIOUS STREET RIOT: PATERSON, NJ - One man is injured and six are arrested in the fracas that follows a peaceful parade held with official permission. A gathering in a vacant lot after the procession precipitates the dispute which ends in a free-for-all, but the cause of law and order finally prevails and the obstreperous objectors are incarcerated.
