Royal Bridegroom Pilots Princess on Aerial Honeymoon (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1931)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. ROYAL BRIDEGROOM PILOTS PRINCESS ON AERIAL HONEYMOON: ASPERN, AUSTRIA - Flying a small sport plane, Archduke Anton of Hapsburg stops off with Princess Ileana, of Rumania, his bride, to show her the sights of Vienna, nearby. The titled husband is an ardent aviation fan and is winging over central Europe prior to a hop for England. Attaches of the Rumanian embassy and officials of Austria welcome the couple to the city. 2. HIGHWAYS FLOODED AS SUDDEN STORMS BREAK LONG DROUGHT: LANCASTER, OH - The farmers of the Little Miami Valley prayed for rain to end a long dry spell that was taking a severe toll of the crops. The heavens opened and drenched the whole region. The stream was swollen over its banks, inundating roads throughout the area, tying up traffic and bringing the land-owners the blessing they asked. Motorists and automobile trucks attempt to span the swift waters but in many cases the vehicles are marooned in the middle of the main highway. 3. VISIT OF BRUENING AND CURTIUS ENDS IN GOOD-WILL EXCHANGE: ROME, ITALY - Premier Mussolini entertains the German Chancellor and Foreign Minister at the Villa D’Este and plans for the benefit of Europe and general relief of the world are discussed. The plight of the nations of central Europe, with their political and financial troubles, occupies the men during the conference in which Foreign Minister Dino Grandi, also, took part. The friendliness of the two nations predicts a new day for all the continent. 4. LYNCHERS FOILED AS “TORCH KILLERS” GET LIFE IN SPEEDY TRIAL: YPSILANTI, OH (MI -- in film title) - Throngs, thirsty to take the law in their own hands, mill around outside the Washtenaw County jail but police vigilance protects Frank Oliver, David Blackstone, and Fred Smith. The crowds wait through the night for the departure, under a heavy guard, of the men to prison, convicted of the brutal slaying of two high school girls and their boy companions. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 5. HIRATSUKA, JAPAN - Invoke Deity’s aid for municipal street-car line! — Shinto clergy preside at trolley inauguration. 6. CHICAGO, IL - Colored boys box for charity! — Spectators donate food and clothing to watch stirring bouts. 7. ST. NAZAIRE, FRANCE - Recover 5 more bodies from ill-fated St. Philibert! — Re-float steamer which sank with 500 aboard. 8. HONOLULU, TH - Did you ever see a horse with a mustache! — Well, here he is, — honest Injun —. 9. CITY LAW COMPELS MEN TO WEAR BEARDS FOR ANNUAL PAGEANT: CENTRALIA, WA - Offenders who fail to heed the ordinance are imprisoned in a stock and pillory, and freedom is gained only after the payment of a fine. Even the mayor of the municipality, and its leading bankers and professional men, are forced to live up to the letter of the edict which became effective six weeks before the Pioneers Picnic. Many covered wagons used by the trail-blazers three-quarters of a century ago are seen in the picturesque parade which climaxes the historic fete. 10. GOLD CUP CLASSIC WON BY HOTSY TOTSY IN NEW RECORD TIME: MONTAUK, NY - Victor Kleisrath, of Port Washington, NY, repeats his performance of last year and sets a new average mark of 53.6 miles an hour for the 90-mile course. The most sought-after prize of speedboat racing in America is won after a grueling battle during the first heat with Miss Philadelphia and Californian. The winner has now taken the coveted trophy two years in succession with the same craft.
