Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. DESOLATION AND RUIN FOLLOW IN PATH OF EARTHQUAKE HORROR: OAXACA, MEXICO - With the known dead 114 and the toll likely to grow, soldiers and civilians work feverishly amid debris and ashes to aid survivors of great temblor which not only wiped out main part of this city, but destroyed three others — one with a population of 2,500 disappearing entirely. 2. 761 BABIES ENTERED IN CONTEST TO WIN CHIROPRACTIC TITLE: LOS ANGELES, CA - Record number of contestants meet in one of nation’s most notable health tournaments, at which muscle, bone, nerve and organic structures count in scoring. Stethoscopes, introduced as heart checkers, induce as unscheduled demonstration of lung and vocal power among infants. 3. POLICE SUBDUE RED RIOT IN COMMUNIST MARCH ON CITY HALL: NEW YORK, NY - Under the guise of unemployed workers bearing a petition for relief, 2,000 avowed opponents of American organized government violate pledge of orderly assembly and stage disorder. Spasmodic fighting rages for almost an hour with mounted and foot guards using fists instead of clubs. 4. STATE TAKES STEPS TO PRESERVE NATIVE CACTUS CURIOSITIES: APACHE TRAIL, AZ - Horticultural scientists, fearing its extinction, make survey of vast natural garden with hundreds of varieties of all-purpose plant which, though armed with defensive spears, provides food for man and beast, clothing, paper fiber, fuel, candy juices and beverages. One specimen examined is 261 years old, weighing more than 200 tons. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 5. ROME, ITALY - (Exclusive Pictures) Mussolini rides in private steeplechase! — Il Duce practices daily hurdles in rare informal camera mood. 6. NATURE’S UPHEAVAL CHANGES FACE OF FAMOUS CATARACT: NIAGARA FALLS, NY - For first time since white men gazed upon the American water marvel here, centuries ago, a major alteration in its contour occurs with the collapse of rock shelf between Prospect Point and Luna Island, leaving a toothless cavity 150 feet wide in rim. Most other erosions have been on Canadian side. 10. COLLEGE MEN JOUST IN FLOUR BATTLE FOR HOSPITAL CHARITIES: LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Students of upper and lower classes meet in determined and enthusiastic battle, during which they employ wooden swords, fists and feet, as well as sacks of the white powder which they use as bombs and hand grenades. Skirmish is featured by same vigor as that of American frosh-soph encounters. 11. CONFLICTING VIEWS GREET REPORT OF WICKERSHAM BOARD: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Like Mark Twain’s hash, the findings of President Hoover’s eleven law experts on crime in its relation to Prohibition, seems to be one of the great American mysteries. Both Wet’s and Dry’s get comfort from it, it appears, but the consensus of opinion is that the vexatious question remains in status quo.
