Picked Troops Honor Unknown Soldier in Martial Procession (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1931)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. PICKED TROOPS HONOR UNKNOWN SOLDIER IN MARTIAL PROCESSION: PARIS, FRANCE - On the 13th anniversary of the Armistice, crack regiments of infantry, cavalry, and artillery march in the shadow of the Arch of Triumph, commemorating, with the parade, the dawn of peace. President Paul Doumer and Premier Laval are among the nation’s dignitaries who review the troops and pay homage at the tomb in solemn rites honoring the country’s dead. 2. FIRST SNOW BRINGS RECORD FLOCKS TO OPEN HUNT SEASON: TULE LAKE, OR - At the first sight of birds on the wing, marksmen from every section of the nation flood this sportsmen’s paradise in quest of the elusive water fowl. Accompanied by well-bred hounds and armed with trusty guns, the hunters are greeted by the greatest flight ever seen in this part of the country. Millions of geese and ducks fill the air. But game wardens are always present to see that the birds get an even break, and that the sharp-shooters do not profit too richly. 3. THRILLED CITY HAILS NEW BRIGADE HEADED BY ROYAL GENERAL: NAPLES, ITALY - Under a background of gorgeous rolling hills that sweep from the bay up beyond the city’s limits, Crown Prince Humbert parades his new command before the populace of the community. The skilled maneuvers of the troops win the admiration of the new leader, and the acclaim of the spectators, who are restrained by the police in their anxiety to crowd into the path of the soldiers as they march up the historic Via Caracciolo. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. PALO ALTO, CA - Stanford students hold monster bonfire rally! — Annual ceremony climaxes 1931 football season. 5. NEWPORT, RI - Millionaire drives stage-coach! — Wm. H. Vanderbilt guides aged vehicle to inaugurate Christmas Seal Campaign. 6. PICO, CA - Mirrors protect bank against hold ups! — New device makes institution burglar-proof. 7. CHINATOWN MEETS TO DEVISE METHODS OF AIDING MOTHER-LAND: NEW YORK, NY - Thousands gather in a monster meeting to protest against Japan’s Manchurian activities. Police keep a watchful eye while speakers exhort their audiences to action and demand peace for the homeland. Fearing an outburst against the Eastern Empire, where troops are mobilizing, the Oriental quarter is rigidly guarded. The ire of the adult population of this section of the metropolis has little effect on the pastimes of the younger and Americanized generation, whose main thought is the outcome of major football contests. 8. FAIR HARVARD BOWS TO ELI, 3-0, IN GOLDEN JUBILEE GRID DUEL: CAMBRIDGE, MA - Little Albie Booth, Yale’s mighty atom, after a three-year struggle connects in his last appearance against the ancient rival and boots a field goal that gives his eleven its first victory in four years over the Crimson. After a brilliant 87-yard dash from the opening kick-off by Jack Crickard, the Johnnies’ vaunted air attack is smothered. Barry Wood is fought to a standstill by an inspired Blue team, and the Bulldog supporters express their jubilant spirits by ripping up the goal posts from Soldier Field.
