Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. TROOPING THE COLORS - Traditional martial pageantry highlights the celebration of Queen Elizabeth's thirty-first birthday. In full dress uniform as Honorary Commander, Her Majesty reviews the Household Guards, at their most impressive, from horseback. 2A/B/C. ROSE FESTIVAL - Portland's 49th annual Rose Festival is climaxed by a mammoth parade which is witnessed by 40,000 as the procession of lavish floats winds through the streets of the City of Roses. / (B+C.) MID-EAST POWER SHIFT - A major re-alignment of forces in the critical mid-East continues, with a widening of the rift between Egypt and Jordan, and the strengthening of bonds between Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Meetings between national leaders and the withdrawal of Jordan's Ambassador from Cairo bespeak the course of events. 3A/B/C. U.S. OPEN GOLF - Dick Mayer, LaJolla, Cal., pro, wins the U.S. Open Golf Championship at Toledo, in play-offs against 2-time winner Cary Middlecoff. Middlecoff wilts badly as his opponent holes out seven-up to win handily. / BELMONT STAKES - Records topple in the Belmont Stakes, as Gallant Man sweeps to an 8-length victory over a fast field, with a spectacular drive from an 8-length trailing position, to set a new record for the distance! / POLE VAULT RECORD: AUSTIN, TX - Bob Gutowski, 150-pound six-footer, eclipses the world's mark for the pole vault in the Nat'l Collegiate track meet, with a jump of 15 ft. 9 3/4 inches. Another world mark falls when Don Bowden wins the Half-Mile in 1:47.2.
