Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. WORLD AIRPORT OPENS: New York's thirty-million-dollar International Airport building is dedicated, a vast modernistic structure eleven city blocks long, designed to bring airport facilities into the jet age. 2A/B/C/D/E. FORMOSA HIGHWAY - Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai Shek inspect construction of a new 190-mile highway being hewn out almost entirely by hand labor. / GAS MAIN EXPLOSION - In mid-town Manhattan, a carelessly tossed cigarette ignites gas leaking from an open main. Flames roar out of control on Broadway for an hour! / 4-H CLUBBERS - Parade of 4-H champions is a highlight of the 88th International Live Stock Show at Chicago, as the Champion Steer is chosen, a Hereford owned by Mrs. Sue Secondino of West Terre Haute, Ind. / PROTECTION - In Protection, Kansas, protection from polio is in the air. The town completes 100% Salk shot coverage, and launches hundreds of balloons to alert the nation in the same cause. / CALF SCRAMBLE - In Los Angeles, 5 calves are turned loose, 10 farm boys after 'em. The winning buckaroos get to keep the calves, worth $100 each. What a scramble! 3. FASHION PARADE - Holiday hats greeting the festive season are spotlighted in New York. Turbans and caps in luxurious fabrics–gold brocade, black velvet, satin rose petals–millinery a la mode! 4A/B. SPORTS — MOTOR BOAT SHOW - In Seattle, boats, boats, boats–everything from do-it-yourself kits and 7½ foot junior runabouts to $27,000 floating palaces at the National Boat Show. '49ers / UPSET GIANTS - At Yankee Stadium, the San Francisco '49ers turn Giant killers, sparked by Joe Perry and Y.A. Tittle, to push the New York team to the brink of elimination in the league race, with a 27-17 win.
