Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. MID-EAST CRISIS PROPAGANDA WAR HOT - EVENTS "MARK TIME" - British forces stand fast in Jordan, bolstering the threatened Hussein regime as events stabilize in the troubled area, but Nasser's radio continues to call on Jordan's masses for an anti-West rising. 2. RECORD BALLOON TRIP - A huge Navy research balloon carries a crew of two into the stratosphere for a new endurance record. The gondola is successfully pressurized to sea-level conditions for the 34-hour flight. 3A/B/C/D. JAPAN TYPHOON - The island empire, parched by one of its worst droughts in history, is lashed by the season's first typhoon. There's water a-plenty but at grim cost–death, destruction and ruin for tens of thousands. / MISS UNIVERSE 1958 - At Long Beach, California, Miss Universe 1958 is chosen from the world's prettiest girls. She's good-neighbor Luz Marina Zuloaga of Colombia, 19 years old and looking to get married! / JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES - 180,000 members of the Jehovah's Witnesses sect gather in New York City for an 8-day Assembly, filling Yankee Stadium, with the overflow packing the Polo Grounds. / CUBS MEET TOTS - In Rome, the Zoo's new lion cubs are introduced to local tots with attractive Italian starlets performing the introductions for the benefit of photographers. A purr-fectly good time had by all. 4A/B. HARTACK RIDES JUMPS - At Monmouth Park, jockey Willie Hartack turns jump racer for a day and gets a "bigger thrill than winning the Kentucky Derby" as he pilots Mielaison to a 5-length victory. / ARLINGTON CLASSIC - A rare thrill for 30,000 turf fans as the 12-horse field in the Arlington Classic comes thundering home as closely packed as at the start. Winner's share of the $146,000 purse goes to Dragon Killer–a 17-1 shot!
