Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. VICE-PRESIDENT IN LONDON FOR DEDICATION - Vice-President and Mrs. Richard Nixon make an unscheduled arrival in London, coming in by train after their plane is unable to land at fog-bound London airport. A good turnout of Londoners greets them despite the altered arrival. Mr. Nixon will participate in the dedication ceremonies of the new American Memorial Chapel of St. Paul's Cathedral. 2A/B. FORMOSA SUGAR CROP - An Army of half a million, mostly women, pour into the cane fields of Formosa to harvest a $100 million dollar crop that makes Free China the world's second-ranking producer of sugar. / AUTOS BURNED - In New York City, where some 600 wrecked and abandoned autos a day are burned by the City. A new smokeless furnace goes into service, with a special chamber to eliminate one source of air pollution. 3. COLTS TRAMPLE RAMS - In Baltimore Memorial Stadium, the Colts run rampant against the Los Angeles Rams, sparked by Johnny Unitas' return after 3 weeks on the sidelines. It's a rout as the Baltimore pro gridders continue their headlong gallop towards the Western Division title. 4. 25 YEARS AGO TODAY! - 25 Years ago today when aviators were heroes and flying was an adventure, without the aid of electronic brains. Among the great names of the day: Charles A. Lindberg who, with Mrs. Lindbergh, earned the new fame pioneering commercial airways in an odyssey that took him across the Atlantic twice–flying over 4 continents. General Italo Balbo let his armada of 24 Italian seaplanes 6,100 miles to the Chicago World's Fair, in one of the greatest of all mass flights. Other highlights: a steam-engined plane with a reversible propeller, an experimental helicopter setting a new record for height–30 feet; and the 110 miles to the gallon motor scooter invented by a flier for commuting to and from the airport.
