U.S.S.R. Film Premire Opens Culture Exchange (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1959)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. U.S.S.R. FILM PREMIRE OPENS CULTURE EXCHANGE - In Washington, D.C. Hollywood luminaries, members of the diplomatic corps, and high government officialdom mingle at the full-dress premiere of a new Soviet film that opens the Russian-American cultural exchange of motion pictures, to be distributed in the U.S. under Hollywood auspices. 2A/B. BIGGEST SIDEWAYS LAUNCHING - Outside Detroit, the biggest sideways launching in history. The biggest Great Lakes ore carrier ever goes down the ways sending up a spectacular wall of water that sends workmen and spectators on the opposite side scurrying. / HELI-CRANE CARRIES CAR - In Connecticut, the newest giant experimental helicopter, a flying crane, demonstrates its mighty lifting power by carrying aloft a full size four door 1960 sedan. 3. HATS TO TURN MILDAY’S HEAD - Hat styles for winter shown in Rome are enough to turn milady’s head, and make men’s heads spin. Somewhat resembling sputniks, they’re “way out,” the dizziest fashion news of the season. 4A/B. THRILL FINISH IN TROT CLASSIC - At Hollywood Park, California, seven top trotters in harness racing in the $75,000 American Trotting Classic, with one of the all-time thrill finishes as Charming Barbara at 17-1 shades Trader Horn by a whisker to win. / TEXAS SQUEAKS BY BAYLOR, 13–12 - At Austin, Texas, unbeaten Texas is nearly toppled by the Baylor Bears, who rampage through most of the game until the Longhorns recover a fumble and rally in the final minutes for a do or die scoring stampede.
