Description

The original release sheet reads: EARTHQUAKE SMASHES AGADIR The Moroccan port and tourist center of Agadir is shattered by two earthquakes coming within an hour. A calamity that destroys 80% of the city, and takes a fearful toll - some 5,000 bodies recovered, and an estimated 5,000 more still buried in the ruins when health authorities order rescue work stopped. IKE RELAXES ON WAY HOME On his return to Washington from South America, Ike stops over in Puerto Rico for a four day interlude of golfing and relaxation in the sun. MUNITIONS BLAST IN HAVANA A thunderous explosion rips Havana Harbor, taking some 100 lives and injuring hundreds more. The blast of the French munitions ship is immediately blamed by Castro on American sabotage, and as Cuba mourns her dead, a new diplomatic crisis flares angrily. "IDEA CAR" ON THE ROAD On a Detroit proving ground, a glimpse of the XNR "Idea Car," a new departure in styling and radical design that may foreshadow things to come on our highways in the years ahead. FIRST JAPANESE CARDINAL In Tokyo, scenes of Archbishop Peter Tatsuo Doi, the first Japanese ever to become a Prince of the Church. He's one of 7 new Cardinals named by Pope John XXIII, including the first Negro and the first Filipino. FLOWER SHOW OPENS The International Flower Show opens in the New York Coliseum, its theme "Flowers Around the World." Half a million blossoms and 37 major gardens contribute to a beauteous Spring pageant. INTERNATIONAL ICE CROWN In Vancouver, B.C., the International Figure Skating Championships, 21-year-old Alain Giletti brings the men's crown to France for the first time in history with a dazzling performance.
