Description

The original release sheet reads: NEW TURMOIL IN CONGO Civil strife seems imminent in the Congo, as police charge a hostile mob chanting “Death to Lumumba” and drive off the crowd in a violent clash. Mob assault on U.N. soldiers and threats by Lumumba to invade secessionist Katanga Province further stir new tensions in the explosive crisis. In Brussels, King Baudouin leads mourning for 49 Belgian troops who died in a crash while returning home after evacuation from the Congo. TANK KILLING BABY MISSILE In Britain, a mighty mite of a missile is revealed. The tiny rocket trails a mile-long cable over which it receives guidance signals. Animation sequences and live demonstrations show how it can be steered in pursuit of the most evasive target. LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES In Williamsport, Pa., the Levittown, Pa., and Fort Worth, Texas Little Leaguers meet in the final game of the World Series. Levittown pitcher Joe Mormora slams out a home run and pitches a 16 strike-out no-hitter to bring his team the championship, with one of the finest performances in Little League history. SPORTS OLYMPIC PAGEANTRY IN ROME The 17th modern Olympiad opens in Rome with over 4,000 athletes taking part in ceremonies of memorable splendor and solemnity, 84 nations are represented in the opening of the games which are looked to for some of the most thrilling international competition in the annals of sports, and which live up to the promise in the first actual events, featuring startling upsets and breath-takingly close decisions.
