Last Rites for Hammarskjold (Universal Newsreel, Oct 1961)

Description

The original release sheet reads: LAST RITES FOR HAMMARSKJOLD The dedicated man who led the United Nations along the hard road to peace and brotherhood is buried in his native Sweden. King Gustaf Sixth Adolph leads the homage to Dag Hammarskjold as he is accorded a state funeral - the first commoner in Sweden to be so honored. At services in Upsala Cathedral, world leaders, including Vice-President Johnson and UN Ambassador Stevenson, pay final tribute. A NEW KING! MARIS SLAMS NUMBER 61 The crowd in Yankee Stadium for the final game of the year was not there to see the Yankeess - but Roger Maris. They get their reward as the home run slugger sends his 61st round-tripper into the stands and sets a new season's record. However, baseball moguls have ruled that Babe Ruth's record for a shorter season will have to be broken within 154 games. SPORTS OHIO STATE AND TEXAS CHRISTIAN PLAY TO TIE The 83,0000 packed into Ohio State Stadium at Columbusv expect to see the Buckeyes steamroller their way to victory over the Horned Toads of Texas Christian University. However, though Bob Ferguson carries 14 times in Ohio's first touchdown drive for a touchdown, TCU comes back in the last quarter to score and tie up the game - a moral victory for TCU. GEORGIA TECH SWAMPS FAVORED RICE This is the day for Old Man Upset! The fans at Grant Field in Atlanta see Georgia tech get away to a fast start over Rice as Stubby Stan Cann throws passes galore. Rice is a nationally ranked team, but they don't faze Georgia Tech and the Ramblin' Wrecks swamp Rice - 24-0.
