U.S. Defends East German Border Guards (Universal Newsreel, Oct 1961)
Description
The original release sheet reads: U.S. DEFENDS EAST GERMAN BORDER GUARDS Served with an order by East German authorities that all U.S. personnel must be show identification before entering that sector of Berlin, American troops answer with the only language the Reds seem to understand - a show of arms. American soldiers escort civilian cars across the border under heavy guard and defy the East Germans to demand identification cards. Meanwhile, the U.S. Berlin Garrison holds elaborate maneuvers in the shadow of the wall erected two months ago. It's morale booster for the citizens of West Berlin. WAR OF WORDS: ---- LANGUAGE RIOT IN BELGIUM Flemish-speaking Belgians, 100,000 strong, march on Brussels to demand that their tongue be used more in official government business. They clash with counter-demonstrators and tongues and fists fly. FASHIONS A PEARL FOR THE APPLE OF YOUR EYE There's nothing like a mink coat or jewelry to give milady a lift and with this new costume jewelry, dominated by the pearl motif, you can forget the mink!
