President Tours (Universal Newsreel, Dec 1962)
Description
The original release sheet reads: PRESIDENT TOURS: KENNEDY INSPECTS NUCLEAR BASES The SAC Post in OMaha and the "Project Rover" center in Los Alamos are visited by President Kennedy. At SAC he presents a plaque recognizing the flights made during the Cuban crisis. At Los Alamos he sees the steps accomplished in developing nuclear power for rockets to outer space. MIDWEST DIGS OUT: 3 FEET OF SNOW BLANKETS OHIO The first severe snow storm of the season, spawned by frigid Canadian winds, paralyzes sections of the midwest and eastern states. Traffic, of course, was the first casualty and hundreds had to be rescued. More than 50 deaths are attributed to the snow. QUEEN'S FUNERAL: LAST TRIBUTE TO WILHELMINA All of The Netherlands is in mourning as former Queen Wilhelmina receives a final tribute. It's an all-white funeral in keeping with her belief that death is the beginning. COUNCIL CLOSES: POPE JOHN PRESIDES AT LAST SESSION Two thousand Cardinals, Bishops and other prelates hear the Pope say that he has "heard the voice of the whole Catholic world" during the Ecumenical Council which adjourns until next September. MINE DISASTER: 37 TRAPPED BY EXPLOSION Rescue workers labor for days trying to save men trapped by an explosion deep in a Pennsylvania mine. The blast caved in the ventilation system and hope was abandoned quickly after the first bodies were found. NOW hear THIS! ITALIANS UNVEIL TALKING CHIMP There are a pair of chimpanzees in Rome who have I.Q.'s that have scientist climbing trees....One dances a nice twist, while the other says M-a-m-a distinctly, with no Italian accent.
