New Space Triumph
New Space Triumph (Universal Newsreel, May 1962)
Description
The original release sheet reads: NEW SPACE TRIUMPH Astronaut Scott Carpenter becomes the fourth U.S. Airman to probe outer space and the second to orbit the Earth in a flight that is fraught with drama that has the world waiting an hour for news of his safe landing. After three successful orbits, his rockets don't fire properly and he lands 250 miles beyond the target area. With no radio contact, there is no way of knowing he is safely down until finally faint signals are heard and he is picked up. Students Spoof Science: They dedicate a new student's club in Delft, The Netherlands, and concoct an out-of-this-world chain reaction to set the wheels in motion and send a cyclist through the sealed door.
