U.S. vs Mississippi (Universal Newsreel, Oct 1962)

Description

The original release sheet reads: U.S. vs MISSISSIPPI: STUDENT RIOTS MARK INTEGRATION James H. Meredith, 29-year-old Negro, is registered at the University of Mississippi only after last ditch attempts by State authorities to bar him from the school. As President Kennedy spoke asking for calm, riots broke out on the campus as students and hangers-on fought with U.S. Marshalls. SPANISH DISASTER: FLOODS TAKE HEAVY TOLL Flash floods that followed on the heels of a nine-hour rainfall cause wide devastation in the area around Barcelona. Damage is estimated at $30,000,000 as relief workers recover 500 bodies and seek the hundreds still missing. FASHION PARADE FALL FASHIONS: FITTED SUITS ARE THE THING Out of Paris via Germany are these suits for Fall -- suits that are designed (they say) to be severe and to flatter the figure at the same time. The choker collar is back, too, and there are tasseled shawls to guard against that Autumn nip. SPORTS FOOTBALL: ARMY 9 SYRACUSE 2 The West Point Cadets take advantage of Orange fumbles to score a touchdown and a field goal. Syracuse is able to chalk up only two points on a safety as an Army man is nailed behind the goal line when he catches a punt.
