President Greets a "Good Neighbor" (Universal Newsreel, Feb 1963)
Description
The original release sheet reads: PRESIDENT GREETS A "GOOD NEIGHBOR" The red carpet is rolled out for President Romulo Betancourt of Venezuala, called one of the nation's best friends by President Kennedy. The president greets him on the White House steps as Mr. Betancourt begins a five day visit in the United States. AH--WINTER CAN BE BEAUTIFUL! The severe winter that has gripped most the nation goes artistic at Niagra Falls where the river and the falls are jammed with ice for 13 miles. It's a spectacular display of Jack Frost at his best (instead of worst). HATS ARE COMING UP ROSES: Yes, spring hats are also coming up every other bloom as London designers unveil milady's bonnets for the coming season. There are shoes that are far out too, in a pedestrian way. CONGRESS IN SESSION (BOWLING CONGRESS-THAT IS): You'll be able to hear a pin drop in Buffalo for the next two and a half months as the American Bowling Congress holds its 60th tournament. There's a half million in prize money for the 25,000 bowlers competing. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY THE YALTA CONFERENCE Terms for Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender were set at the historic Yalta Conference in February of 1945. This was to be the last page of history written by the wartime president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. He made a report congress on the meeting, obviously a very sick man. Six weeks later he died at Warm Springs, Georgia.
