Queen Begins Australian Tour (Universal Newsreel, Feb 1963)
Description
The original release sheet reads: QUEEN BEGINS AUSTRALIAN TOUR The Dominion's Parliament Building is brilliantly illuminated for ceremonies welcoming Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Australia. They are beginning a five week tour that will take them into the outback for a look at a sheep ranch. WIDE AREAS SUFFER IN ITALIAN FLOODS Europe's wost winter in a century continues to take a toll. On the island of Sardinia, farmers suffer huge livestock and crop losses as swiftly melting snows turn into raging floods. Mud-slides too, are a menace as they creep down on villages. SPRING IS IN THE LONDON AIR Will somebody nudge the weatherman and tell him s-p-r-i-n-g is here-spring fashions-that is. These British styles are all feminine aimed at adding glamour to that spring event. Spring-it's wonderful. SPORTS AAU RECORDS SET AT TRACK MEET From the broad jump to the mile run, there's a thrill a minute at the AAU games in New York. Russian ace Igor Ter-Ovanesyan sets an indoor mark in the broadjump with a leap of 26 feet, 6 1/2 inches. In the mile run it's Jim Beatty all the way as he turns in a neat 3 minutes 59 seconds.
