Description

The original release sheet reads: CARDINALS MEET: PREPARE TO ELECT 262ND PONTIFF Vatican City continued to be the focus of world attention as the College of Cardinals meets to elect a new pope. They will live behind locked doors until a decision is reached on a successor to Pope John XXIII. The conclave takes place in the Sistine Chapel ablaze with frescoes created by Michaelangelo. Ballots will be burned in the traditional stove and the smoke will signal the pope's election. BRITISH POMP MARKS VISIT OF INDIA'S CHIEF Dr. Radhakrishnan, on a state visit to England, is received by the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh as he arrives for a 12-day stay. He is welcomed with all of the pomp and ceremony at the command of the royal court. HOLE IN WALL: REDS OPEN NEW BERLIN CROSSING The wall of shame in Berlin has been breached again-but by the East German red regime for their own ends. The new opening in the wall is designed to provide a shorter route to the East Berlin airport. The reds hope to get tourists to use their airlines. TWO-PART STORY: PLANE SEPARATES TO RECEIVE CARGO It's no accident this plane is in two pieces-that's the way it's built. The plane, a modification of the conventional stratocruiser separates in the middle and can be loaded with complete missile components for transport to Cape Canaveral. SPORTS GOLF THRILLER: PALMER WINS TITLE ON PLAY-OFF HOLE There's tension-and drama-right down to the last hole-and beyond, in the $100,000 match at Westchester (New York) Country Club. Arnold Palmer ends up on the 72nd hole in a tie with Paul Harney. They go into a sudden-death playoff and "Arnie" sinks his putt to pick up $25,000 after Harney misses his putt.
