Description

The original release sheet reads: KENNEDY VISITS POPE: AUDIENCE CLIMAXES EUROPEAN TRIP Vatican City is one of the last stops for President Kennedy on his European visit and he is received with pomp and ceremony. He has a private, 40-minute conversation with Pope Paul VI and then Secretary of State Dean Rusk and the other 14 members of the party hear the pope read a statement lauding the United States for its role in world affairs. It's an historic meeting between two world leaders. CANADA RESTORES FRENCH FORTRESS In the 18th century when France ruled in the new world, Cape Breton Island played a key role in coastal defenses. Fort Louisbourg was a mighty citadel that changed hands many times between the English and the French as they fought for control of Quebec and eastern Canada. Now the fort is being restored and frogmen are recovering artifacts from beneath the waters near the redoubt where many ships were sunk. The Canadians hope to have the restoration completed in time for Canada's centennial year in 1967. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY Prelude to victory....Paris is freed! Members of the French underground-patriots who fought the Germans during the long occupation-come out into the open to clean out snipers-German stragglers and Frenchmen who had collaborated with the Nazis. It's the prelude to the entrance of victorious Allied Forces into the city of light that spent four long years undre Nazi rule. There is literally dancing in the streets of the freed city as allies push into the north. The Nazis were doomed. Germany's surrender was about nine months away.
