Scores of Nations Join in Atom Ban (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1963)
Description
The original release sheet reads: SCORES OF NATIONS JOIN IN ATOM BAN Scores of nations rush to join the big three in signing an atom test ban agreement. The Kremlin is the setting for the historic event as the United States, Britain, and the USSR agree to ban all except underground nuclear testing. Dean Rusk signs for the U.S., Andrei Gromyko for the Soviets and Lord Home for Britain as a jovial Khrushchev looks on with the United Nations Secretary General U Thant. KENNEDY BABY: PRESIDENT STANDS VIGIL AFTER EARLY BIRTH The dramatic miracle of birth and a fight for life is enacted at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod as Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy gives birth to a premature son, the first child born to a president in office in 69 years. Thousands of good wishes and prayers pour in as the president stands vigil at Boston's Children's Hospital as Patrick Bouvier Kennedy wages his fight for life. MOVIE GLAMOUR: WEST COAST OPENING AND EASTERN BEAUTIES On the West Coast, a premiere of a new comedy: "THE THRILL OF IT ALL"-in New York a bathing beauty contest: two events a continent apart that proves all is still glamour in Hollywood news. The premiere is a glittering, kleig-lighted affair and the contest -well, it's brilliantly lit by 13 beauties, one of whom is chosen to be "Miss Premiere" at the opening of "FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY". YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY DECEMBER 26, 1947 and New York was smothered in 26 inches of snow-the heaviest fall in weather bureau history. The storm was knee deep in statistics, too. 99,000,000 (weigh 'em) tons of snow fell in 16 hours; 30,000 men labored to clear the streets; it was 5 inches more than the famed blizzard of '88 (and the kids enjoyed every minute of it).
