Description

The original release sheet reads: THE VIET NAM CRISIS Tanks manned by troops of the special forces ring Buddhists temples in Viet Nam as the crisis in that embatled southeast Asian nation mount to a climax. These troops, under the command of President Diem's brother have been mounting a campaign of terror against the Buddhists that has the United States taking a hard stand against the persecution. COPS CAPTURE CROWD Gilbert and Sullivan to the contrary-a policeman's lot IS a happy one...at least in West Berlin. President Kennedy's mother is the guest of honor as 100,000 see 5,000 cops put on a show that has everything-even a police dog soccer team! SPORTS SURFING TAKES OVER IN EUROPE Surf-boarding has zoomed onto the European scene and in less than two years it has become the most popular seaside sport along the Basque coast. At Biarritz they hold the first European championships with entrants from the United States mainland and Hawaii competing. There's one great advantage of surf-boarding at a famed resort-it's but a step from a wet bathing suit to a dry martini. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY September 1938-the Eastern seaboard is lashed by a tropical hurricane. For two days the coast, from New Jersey to New England felt its full fury. New York was whipped by 70-mile-an-hour winds and the raging sea poured millions of tons of water far inland. Three hundred million dollars was a conservative estimate of the damage. Six hundred people died in the storm.
