Description

The original release sheet reads: POLICE SHOW: ITALIANS STAGE A SPECTACULAR The Italian police force has distinguished itself for more than a century and now they stage a stupendous show with President Antonio Segni of Italy as guest of honor. Their march formation would do a crack regiment proud. They have judo exhibitions and motorcycle exhibits that all add up to a show of shows. CHANCELLOR ERHARD IN BERLIN The New West German head makes his first official visit to Berlin since succeeding Konrad Adenauer. As Economics Minister, Mr. Erhard brought Germany prosperity and now, as chancellor, he faces even greater tasks ahead. THE END OF THE LINE New York's Pennsylvania Railroad station gives way to the wrecker's hammers and thus passes a landmark to tourist and native alike. The tracks will remain underground but a sports palace will replace the "old depot." HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS? The most highly mechanized chicken farm in the world is this one at Lake Matthews, California. It takes up where others leave off. The two owners need only spend four hours a day at work-for the other 20 hours mechanical feeders and automated egg gatherers do all the work. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY May of 1945 saw the lights go on again. From the nation's Capitol Dome to Broadway to Seattle, the blackout was ended with the surrender of Hitler in Europe. Three months later came V-J Day when the Japanese surrendered. From one end of the country to the other it was the greatest celebration the United States has ever seen.
