Flames Sweep Resort (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1963)
Description
The original release sheet reads: FLAMES SWEEP RESORT Whipped by strong winds from the ocean, fire raced through a block of hotels and rooming houses near Atlantic City's famed boardwalk. More than a score of elderly residents were trapped by the flames and as firemen brough the fire under control nine bodies were found. In the ruins with 15 others missing. Firemen from six neighboring communities aided in fighting the resort's worst general alarm fire in many decades. REDS FREE PROFESSOR Both official Washington and the man in the street expressed shock when Professor Frederick Barghoorn was arrested by the Russians on spy charges. At his news conference the president stated the professor was visiting Russia on a cultural mission and the Russians, apparently non-plussed at the furor raised in the United States, released the professor after 16 days in jail. At a news conference on his return, Professor Barghoorn said that in Russia you can be accused of intelligence activity merely by walking down the street. KENNEDY INSPECTS MISSILE CENTER On a whirlwind tour of Florida, President Kennedy visits Cape Canaveral for a first-hand look at the mighty Saturn One. This is the space vehicle that will carry a 19,000 payload into space next month-the largest ever launched by anyone. Later he sees the firing of an underwater Polaris missile for the submarine Andrew Jackson. SPORTS FOOTBALL NAVY BARRAGE SINKS DUKE, 38 to 25 A hopped up Navy team, out after its first victory over Duke since 1954, is sparked by Roger Staubach, as he paces the middie with a great passing game. Duke puts on a tremendous bid and a wild quarter sees the teams score a total of 35 points. Navy, however, winds up in a blaze of glory as Johnny Sai breaks loose for a 90 yard run-the longest romp in Annapolis football history.
