Description

The original release sheet reads: DEMOCRATS GATHER: ATLANTIC CITY PLAYS HOST TO CONVENTION: Atlantic City is in a flurry of last-minute preparations for the Democratic National Convention as it prepares to meet at the resort and name Lyndon B. Johnson as their candidate. About the only question is who will be his running-mate as cables are strung, personnel briefed and the chairs dusted off. Meanwhile, in Washington, the presidewnt has busy days-and nights, before he settles down to campaigning. He greets government "internes", students studying government as they work during the summer, and throws a reception for congressional leaders, to thank them for their work during this session. TOKYO MONORAIL TO SPEED VISITORS: With the Olympic Games drawing nearer, the first section of a monorail train is put into operation in Tokyo. This is the longest monorail in the world and will whisk passengers from the airport to the center of the city, eight miles away. It's operation will be watched with interest by traffic engineers, some of whom feel it is the answer to big city transportation problems. FABULOUS FASHION When they stage a fashion show at UNIVERSAL CITY it's no bargain basement affair---the models, jewels and gowns arrive by armored car! The show is presented by the Los Angeles chapter of Theta Sigma Phi, the women's journalism sorority. It's all for charity as 52 designers theme their brain children to the title of Sandra Dee's latest movie: "I'D RATHER BE RICH". You'd have to be to afford fancy duds like these.
