Johnson-Humphrey (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1964)

Description

The original release sheet reads: JOHNSON-HUMPHREY DEMOCRATS NOMINATE BY ACCLIMATION The finger of destiny fixed on Atlantic City points to Senator Hubert Humphrey as he is chosen by President Lyndon Johnson to be candidate for the office of Vice President. The president was up at 5:30 a.m., to make fifty (50) phone calls around the nation which served to confirm his opinion that Mr. Humphrey was the man for the job. Later, Mr. Johnson smashed precedent when he went to the convention to ask that Mr. Humphrey be chosen as his running-mate. Both men are nominated by acclamation and the next night (on his 56th birthday) the president returns to Atlantic City to make his acceptance speech that sets the tone for the coming campaign.
