New Vietnam Coup (Universal Newsreel, Feb 1965)
Description
The original release sheet reads: NEW VIETNAM COUP There has been another move in the chess game that is South Vietnamese politics and Strong Man General Khanh is out as head of the Armed Forces. Colonel Thao, Khanh's publicity man, attempted a coup that was put down by Khanh's Generals. They in turn threw out Khanh the next day and put themselves in power. Meanwhile, as more and more nations try to put pressure on the U.S. to sit down at the conference table, American jets are stepping up attacks on North Vietnam. FRANCE SHOWS CHURCH TREASURES A breath-taking collection of ecclesiastical art is assembled at France's Museum of Decorative Arts. More than 500 of the nation's towns and villages contribute to the first show of its kind since 1900. It took 15 years of work to prepare for the exhibit - probably the last of its kind. JAPANESE PRINCE CELEBRATES Prince Hiro, second in line to the Imperial Throne, marks his fifth birthday. It's just another day for the youngster who plays with his mother - the commoner who married a prince. The Prince is being brought up in the Western manner for his future duties. A VICTORY STREAK IS ENDED The Providence basketball team, with a string of 19 victories dating back to last season, goes down to defeat in the hands of Villanova. It's nip and tuck in the first half, then the Wildcats edge into the lead. The Providence Friars go down fighting as Villanova winds up on top, 71 to 57.
