Historic Meeting (Universal Newsreel, Mar 1966)
Description
The original release sheet reads: HISTORIC MEETING A day of historic import is written on the Church calendar at Vatican City. Dr. Arthur Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury, and Pope Paul VI confer in the Sistine Chapel on steps that might be taken to bring Roman Catholics and Anglicans closer together. The schism that separated Catholics and English churchmen occurred in the 16th Century and never since have the two churches been so close in Ecumenical recognition of each other. OPERA'S NEW HOME New York's Metropolitan Opera has something to sing about - a spanking new home in Lincoln Center, the city's new cultural hub. For 83 years the Met has been housed in a massive Victorian structure further south - a forbidding pile that has echoed to the world's greatest voices. New, just as singers have become streamlined, so has the Opera House, now ready to carry on a great old tradition in new surroundings. AIN'T LOVE GRAND? Not since Romeo and Juliet has there been such a love story...Crowds greet Chi Chi who arrives in Moscow to meet An An, a Russian man-about-town and her groom. The only two pandas outside of Red China, Chi Chi and An An will make zoologists happy if they become proud parents. SPORTS HULL MAKES NEW HOCKEY RECORDS Bobby Hull, Chicago Black Hawks ace, keeps adding to his season scoring record as he puts his 53rd score on ice in a game against the Detroit Red Wings. Not since 1945 has a player scored more than 50 goals - and Bobby is out for still more. CURTAIN-RAISER FOR INDIANAPOLIS The nation's top drivers compete in the Phoenix 150-mile race, a warmup for the Indianapolis Five Hundred classic. Jim McElreath gets home first with an average of close to 99 miles an hour. He will be one of the stars at Indianapolis when that race is sent to theatres over closed-circuit Television.
