Mexico Hails LBJ (Universal Newsreel, Apr 1966)
Description
The original release sheet reads: MEXICO HAILS LBJ Record crowds hail President Johnson and his family on his arrival at Mexico City airport and wildly cheer the motorcade on its 9-mile ride to the Presidential Palace. The following day, a statue of Abraham Lincoln is unveiled, and President Johnson promises every effort to promote social equity in the hemisphere. SEA KILLS THREE The superliner "Michelangelo", in New York for extensive repair, shows the terrible damage done by a monstrous wave during an Atlantic storm. Water poured down the companionways, crushing steel walls like so much paper. Three persons were killed and several injured. OPERA ERA ENDS The Metropolitan Opera House rings down the final curtain with a gala show. A glittering audience hears 57 Orera stars sing their favorite arias. An office building will replace the 82-year-old landmark...and the Metropolitan Opera Company and stars will move to a fabulous new home in Lincoln Center.
