Description

The original release sheet reads: STATE OF THE UNION Reporting to Congress in his "State of the Union" message, President Johnson calls for a second budget of $12.8 BILLION DOLLARS as he predicts another peak year for the gross national product. He promises to wage the war in Vietnam to victory while at the same time pushing forward his "Great Society" program at home. GOTHAM RIDES AGAIN In the early morning hours of the 13th day of the long, long walk has ended. New York's wheels are turning once again as Mayor John Lindsay announces the agreement to end the transit strike. 6,000 buses are back on the streets and more than 270 miles of subway rails are ringing once more. President Johnson, in a surprise press conference, denounced the settlement of from $50 to $70 MILLION DOLLARS as "against the national interest". He thought the raise too great. But, for the moment, New Yorkers don't tote up the cost: They're too happy to be back strap-hanging. SPORTS SEASON'S FIRST SKI JUMP The first major ski jump of the season gets off to a slippery start at Oberstdorf in the German-Austiran meet. There are jumpers from five countries after this title, but they all have had hard going as the course is rough and sloopy from rain and snow. However, they give their best - and best of all is Veikko Kankkonen of Finland, noted Olympic Gold Medal Winner. TREASURY BOND TRAILER
