Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. RAIL UNIONS AGREE TO 10% YEAR’S PAY CUT; ROADS SAVE $210,000,000: CHICAGO, IL - With the aid of labor representatives, appearing for 20 standard union organizations, a proposal for wage deductions for one year aids the country’s chief transportation lines to avert a difficult situation engendered by the promise of unchanged traffic rates. Under the agreement the roads promise to lend their aid in the stabilization of employment, to refrain from cutting down the existing force, and to attempt to provide for an increase in employment. 2. WOMEN OUSTED WHILE MALE VANITY INVADES FAMOUS STYLE SHOW: MIAMI BEACH, FL - Displaying the latest modes in bathing suits, men models dislodge their feminine rivals in the annual fashion parade at the ritzy Roony-Plaza palm garden, as wearing apparel moderators view their efforts with approving eyes. The latest decrees of expert designers for beach ad drawing-room wear are shown to a large and appreciative audience. A triumph for the stronger sex in the one line in which the ladies formerly held the monopoly. 3. RECORD SEA WEATHER FORCES QUICK RETURN OF BIG FISHING FLEET: BOSTON, MA - Struggling against the terrific west wind, ships from the Grand Banks and the Georges Banks, off Newfoundland, limp into port under a tremendous added weight of ice. Covered with frozen spray from topmast to water-line and stem to stern, the vessels reach the fish docks with their cargo destined for the markets of the nation. Burdened with the added loads of tons of ice, the crews work vigorously to bring their boats to a safe harbor. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. ROME, ITALY - Victor Emmanuel welcomes boy prince! — Son of Abyssinia’s emperor receives royal honors. 5. KANSAS CITY, MO - Mystery explosion causes $150,000 damage! — 1 dead, 6 hurt as sudden blast wrecks warehouse. 6. REDS ATTACK POLICE IN “RENT STRIKERS” DISPOSSESS BATTLE: NEW YORK, NY - Backed by a force of 80 bluecoats, Marshal Louis Novik and his staff enter an apartment house at 665 Allerton Avenue, with eviction orders for belligerent tenants, who refused to pay rent. While the marshal and his men engage in a rousing riot within the building, police are driven to extreme measures to restrain a gathering of 4,000 Communistic sympathizers. Under the protecting arm of the law the orders are carried out, and so is the furniture of the recalcitrant reds. 7. OUTBOARD PILOTS VIE IN THRILLING 22-MILE STEEPLECHASE MEET: WINTER HAVEN, FL - Bounding and leaping over the winding course from Lake Eloise through a chain of lakes and canals, the cream of American daredevils fights for the coveted first place in the main event of the Florida Orange Festival. The treacherous route forces several contestants to quit, but Perry Rae, the Michigan Flash, thunders through to Lake Howard, pounds on to the sandy beach and is hurled a distance of 50 feet to finish tape to win the race. Thousands of spectators lining the banks are thrilled by the display of daring seamanship. 8. WORLD POWERS FACE GRAVE SITUATION AS WAR FLAMES KINDLE: SHANGHAI, CHINA - With the Western nations aroused and anxiously awaiting development in the Orient, British and American naval vessels stand by in the Whagpoo River, offshore from the International Settlement, where Japanese landing parties are carrying on an aggressive campaign against Chinese resistance. While Chapei is alive with embattled troops, U.S. sailors police the main thoroughfares of the Concession, prepared to protect American lives and industries. Meanwhile, 50 miles away in the Yangtze River, other U.S. and British gunboats mark time. (LOCAL – CANADA) CHURLY’S BLACKSMITH SHOP.
