Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. U.S. CALLS 1400 CITIES TO ASSIST IN SEARCH FOR LINDBERGH BABY: TRENTON, NJ - Hoping to aid the State Police under Col. Norman Schwarzkopf’s direction in finding a clue to the whereabouts of the famous flier’s son, the Department of Justice floods the nation with descriptive posters urging the entire populace to assist in the greatest kidnap hunt in history. Acting under orders, police plaster every nearby community with the bills, in the hope of bringing forth some trace of the 20-month child, whose plight has aroused the entire world. 2. BANNED WATER GIVES FLAMES HEADWAY AT $150,000 CASINO BLAZE: CHICAGO, IL - The scene of the fire is “No Man’s Land,” an unincorporated strip of ground between Kenilworth and Wilmette. Officials of these suburban communities had denied the use of their water because of unpaid bills. Powerless to fight the holocaust, firemen of Evanston stand by as the conflagration eats into the structure. After it burns through the resort for hours one of the city dads rescinds the order, but too late to save the building from destruction. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 3. PHILADELPHIA, PA - Easter-egg industry booms! — Confectioners work overtime to meet demand for annual sweet-tooth festival. 4. CHINO, CA - Boy bee-keeper amazes experts! — 11-year-old Ed Hutchinson handles fierce stingers with impunity. 5. CREEDMOOR, NY - Bus brings literature to front door! — Wandering book-shelves serve dwellers distant from Public Libraries. 6. AVALANCHE OF FISH PROVIDES FOOD AND PROFITS TO JOBLESS: LONGVIEW, WA - Over-running the mighty Columbia River, a veritable flood of smelts moves up the stream into its tributaries, affording unemployed fishermen a piscine gold mine, so to speak. Taking advantage of the opportunity for a rich harvest, the men work day and night to cash in on their good fortune. Natives report it as the heaviest run in history, a finny “landslide” that results in fat purses and larders. 8. 5 SHOT AS REDS FIGHT POLICE IN COMMUNIST ANTI-JAPANESE RALLY: CHICAGO, IL - Assailing the Eastern Empire for its “imperialistic attack on China” the mob enters the “Loop” apparently with riot in their hearts as they gather for a protest meeting at the Nippon Consulate. Suddenly the crowd surges and becomes unruly. Into the turbulent mass charge 200 policemen, as Michigan Boulevard, seething with shoppers becomes the scene of one of the wildest demonstrations in the annals of the city. When the smoke of battle clears and minions of the law have scattered the undesirable marchers, a check-up reveals that four officers and a woman have been injured. All suffered from gun-shot wounds or bruises sustained in the melee.
