Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. CITY COMMEMORATES INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF FIRST PRESIDENT: NEW YORK, NY - The triumphant arrival of General George Washington from his Virginia home at the metropolis is re-enacted in a colorful and faithful pageant marking the 143rd anniversary of the historic event. Colonial uniforms, Revolutionary fire-arms, barges and carriages form a quaint parade up the canyon of lower Manhattan in the shadow of the towering skyscrapers. Into Bryant Park rides the Father of His Country, impersonated by Kenneth Murchison, and on the balcony of a replica of Federal Hall solemnly swears to uphold the Constitution of the new republic. One of the most picturesque events in the Bicentennial celebration. 2. FLIERS DIE AS PLANE CRASH SETS FIRE TO HOME ON SOUTH SIDE: CHICAGO, IL - The engine of their ship goes dead several hundred feet up and in an attempt to maneuver a safe landing Air Corps Reserve Lieutenant Harry Sandusky and Charles H. Fargo plunge to their doom in a 2-story brick dwelling. The airplane is completely demolished in the collision. City firemen are rushed to the scene. Acting quickly the frightened residents are rescued and the blaze that follows the explosion is confined to one structure. 3. SENIOR CLASS ENACTS TRADITIONAL MAY DAY “HOOPEE” CELEBRATION: WELLESLEY, MA - The annual race to the chapel is held by Wellesley girls as their last year of college draws to an end. The legend goes that the first feminine hoop pusher to reach the church will be the first to win a bride’s veil. Off in a cloud of flying high heels, the contestants jam the highway in a breath-taking competition. Coiffures and dignity get all mussed up in the hectic fight, until Mildred Marcy, of Newton, MA, breaks away from the pack to romp in the winner. 4. STATE RUSHES WORK ON WORLD’S LONGEST ELEVATED HIGHWAY: JERSEY CITY, NJ - Spanning the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers and the wide expanse of waste marshes, the 3½-mile steel and concrete roadway costing $20,000,000 is rapidly nearing completion. Toiling more than 135 feet above the water, laborers hustle through their daring tasks to bring the gigantic project to a successful finish. The link will connect this city with Newark, and furnish an artery for traffic to Shore Points from the metropolitan district, used annually by millions of motorists. One of the greatest undertakings in highway construction history. 5. ROYALTY PAYS RARE INSPECTION VISIT TO ARMY HEADQUARTERS: ALDERSHOT, ENGLAND - For the first time in many years King George and Queen Mary are entertained at the famous military station. The monarchs evince a keen interest in the latest mechanical developments of war machinery, and are shown the newest in anti-aircraft guns and radio-controlled conveyances. A thrilling demonstration by the Royal Artillery and a troop of cavalry climaxes the special maneuvers arranged expressly for the distinguished guests. 6. TRACK RECORDS FALL AS COLLEGIANS VIE IN ANNUAL FIELD MEET: PHILADELPHIA, PA - The 38th renewal of the Penn Relay Carnival brings forth the nation’s best, all aiming for Olympic berths. Ohio State University’s crack cinder path squad makes the outstanding showing as four Scarlet and Gray lads romp to a new record in the 480-yard shuttle hurdles relay. Jack Keller, the Buckeye speedster, turns in the performance that clinches the new mark of 1:03.5 for the event. In a thrilling demonstration of pole-vaulting agility, John Wonsowicz, OH, ties Boyce Beecher, IN, at 13 feet 6 inches for another record. Howard Spencer, Geneva College Negro star, equals the 15-year-old mark of 6 feet 5 3/8 inches in the high jump. 7. MOSLEM HI-JINX MARK JOYOUS END TO 30-DAY FAST OF “EL RAMADAN”: MARRAKESH, MOROCCO - The holiest month of the year, demanding rigid abstinence from dawn to nightfall, terminates with the observation of the most sacred period of the Islam faith. Shawwal, the tenth month, introduces the Festival period. Picturesque official receptions are held; quaint customs of the religion are invoked; new and colorful native raiment makes its appearance; and gifts are exchanged between friends. The fete brings to a close the long period of penance, and inaugurates a season of high hilarity. (LOCAL – CANADA) FISHING.
