Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. PRINCE PRESIDES AT $1,000,000 SHAKESPEARE THEATER DEDICATION: STRATFORD-ON-AVON, ENGLAND - With Ambassadors and Ministers of 70 nations, and Dominion representatives from all parts of the Empire present, the Prince of Wales inaugurates the show shop honoring the memory of the Immortal Bard. Set in the picturesque country made famous by the renowned poet and playwright, thousands of pilgrims to this seat of dramatic art hail the 350th anniversary of the great author’s death and birthday, with a fitting and beautiful ceremony. 2. STIRRING REVIEW BY CADET CORPS GREETS NEW ACADEMY HEAD: WEST POINT, NY - Marching across the famous Plains with measured strides the famous Army unit demonstrates its military knowledge in a display of precision under the keen eye of Major General William Durward Connor, recently named Superintendent of the Academy. The new chief, with his staff, inspects the future generals on parade for the first time since he took over the command. Impressed by the marvelous maneuvers, preparations are made for the expansion of personnel with the enrollment of a new class. 3. HITLER GETS BIG VOTE BUT FAILS IN HOPE TO NAB PRUSSIAN POWER: BERLIN, GERMANY - In the most surprising turn of the recent elections, the Nazi group misses by the narrow margin of nine votes to wrest control of the Reich from the Democrats. The meteoric advance puts the Nationalist-Fascist party in possession of 203 of 422 votes in the Diet. Although the reins of government do not change hands, the administration organization experiences a disturbing jolt at the sudden display of strength by the Harzburg bloc, after the defeat of their Chief by Paul von Hindenburg for the presidency. NEWS PARAGRAPHS: 4. STOCKTON, CA - Airplanes aid onion growers! — Harmful insects doomed with new chemical smoke-screen. 5. NEW YORK, NY - Creates natural history museum with nuts! — A.C. Law develops vocation from odd hobby. 6. FASCISM ADDS 200,000 NEW ADHERENTS ON CITY’S 2685th BIRTHDAY: ROME, ITALY - A pompous and magnificent ceremony in the Piazza del Popolo attends the conscription of thousands of Fascist recruits. Flanked by his subordinate cabinet officers, Premier Benito Mussolini assumes his favorite role — Il Duce — and administers the oath of allegiance to 100,000 Balilla, Boy Scouts, who become Avanguardisti and another group of 100,000 of this rank who are promoted to the class of combat members. A picturesque pageant of peaceful military strength with the country’s “Iron Man” directing the demonstration. 7. GANGSTER OVERLORD BEGINS LONG TERM IN GOVERNMENT PRISON: CHICAGO, IL - Deserted by his hoodlum friends, the one-time king-pin of the underworld starts the long journey toward Atlanta, GA, where, for the next seven years, at least, he’ll be No. 40,886 at the Federal Penitentiary. His 11-year sentence for evading income tax payment upheld by the higher courts, Public Enemy No. 1, the bragging, swaggering, “Scarface Al” is manacled to a petty auto thief and hustled aboard the Dixie Flyer. Dejected and disappointed, the man who defied justice rattles off toward jail and the end of his crime career, amid the salvos from photographers’ flashlights booming a farewell. 8. DEATH AND DISASTER FOLLOW IN WAKE OF EARTHQUAKE HORROR: OMIA, JAPAN - A sudden death-dealing tremor shakes this community to its foundation and the fire that follows the catastrophe sweeps over the city, fanned by a stiff wind whipping down from the sacred Fujiyama, leaving nothing but ruin and horror. Miraculously one building remains standing and relief agencies commence the almost hopeless task of rehabilitating the wreck locality, and issuing “Nigiri Meshi” — boiled rice balls — to the starving survivors. More than 13 are killed in the disaster that wreaks $3,000,000 damage, injures hundreds, and leaves 10,000 homeless. (LOCAL – NEWARK) BOY’S SAFETY PATROL. (LOCAL – WINCHESTER) APPLE FESTIVAL.
