Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. PUBLIC AND OFFICIALS GREET PRESIDENT AT ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Hundreds wait in line all night to shake the hand of the nation’s Chief Executive, and the First Lady, in the traditional White House reception. Many of the well-wishers have come from far-off places to meet Mr. Hoover and are treated to an extra surprise by seeing almost the entire cabinet, also Vice-President Curtis and Mrs. Gann, pay their respects, too, to the country’s leader. 2. MILLIONS CHEER VIVID FLORAL WONDERS AT ROSE TOURNAMENT: PASADENA, CA - Myriads of blossoms are woven into gorgeous and colorful floats, as nearly every community of the state sends representation to the 43rd annual display. The Spirit of Olympia, bringing to mind the international athletic games to be held this year, proves to be one of the most interesting floats, but to the city of San Marino goes the distinction of the most beautiful entry. The Australian Lyre Bird made from Sweet Peas and China Lilies wins the Grand Sweepstakes award. 3. MUSSOLINI ESCORTS BODY OF BROTHER TO FINAL RESTING PLACE: MILAN, ITALY - The Premier and his family join in the simple ceremony that marks the interment of his beloved brother, Arnaldo, whose sudden and untimely death shocked the entire nation. In Forli, Fascist headquarters, the bier is borne through the streets to the rural cemetery of Mecato-Sarranceno where the young son of the deceased was buried over a year ago. Il Duce stands in reverent silence before the coffin of his kin, as hundreds mourn with him in his bereavement. 4. EINSTEIN ARRIVES TO CONTINUE STUDIES AT FAMED OBSERVATORY: SAN PEDRO, CA - The renowned German scientist and Frau Einstein reach Los Angeles harbor after an uneventful sea voyage from their native land. Reporters and cameramen find the world-famous 4th dimension wizard a bit reticent on this visit, but manage to get a few words and steal a few shots before he leaves for the California Institute of Technology where he plans to collaborate with other great physicists on the equation of the universe. NEWS PARAGRAPH: 5. RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Nation dedicates world’s greatest statue of Redeemer! — Majestic statue erected after 10 years’ labor. 6. CONVICTS RUSHED TO AID FLOOD-STRICKEN RIVER COMMUNITIES: GLENDORE, MS - The overflow of the Tallahatchie River catches residents of this entire locality by surprise, flooding the streets and marooning hundreds in water-locked homes. Submerged farms are deserted and prisoners from penal institutions are brought to the stricken region to stem the tide of the rising water, and save homes from further damage. A tremendous property loss is incurred by the whole community. 7. STUDENTS HOLD WAR MEETING IN DEFIANCE OF GOVERNMENT BAN: SHANGHAI, CHINA - Fu Tan University students gather and select a group representing them to journey to Nanking to lay their objection before President Chiang. In direct opposition to the dictates of the government leaders, the young men and women adopt a set of demands advocating among other things, the immediate declaration of war against Japan. While police guards keep a careful watch on the students the detachment boards a train for the capital, without paying fares, where they noisily lay their ultimatum before the administration. 8. TULANE SUBDUED BY TROJAN GRIDDERS IN CLASSIC STRUGGLE: PASADENA, CA - The football season is climaxed by the thrilling battle between the Southern champions and the Far Western leaders in the annual Tournament of Roses game. Living up to their reputation as a powerful team on the offensive, Southern California drives the Green Wave to a 21-12 defeat. But the Greenies fight to the last ditch. In the final quarter Don Zimmerman finally gets his overhead game going on all cylinders and drops a pass into Jerry Dalrymple’s hands for a score and follows it closely with another touchdown over a similar route. But the Southern gentlemen start too late, and the mythical national championship goes to the West Coast eleven. (LOCAL – RICHMOND) DEEP RUN HUNT CLUB.
