Description
The original release sheet reads: CASAL'S BIRTHDAY In San Juan, World-famous cellist and composer Pablo Casal observes his 90th birthday. The day begins with mass, proceeds through a gala party at his home and ends with an evening concert. Included among congratulatory letters is one from President Johnson. ART THEFT In the biggest single art theft in modern times, thieves steal eight paintings worth from five to seven million dollars from the Dulwich College Art Gallery in London. Later, Scotland Yard announces the recovery of the art, the arrest of one man, and continuing search for several others. YACHT RESCUE Ten persons narrowly escape death when their yacht "Petrel" is pounded by heavy seas and high winds in the Atlantic. Five are transferred to a British freighter while five others stay aboard and are towed by the Coast Guard to their homeport, Stamford, Connecticut. ACAPULCO PARTY Lynda Bird Johnson and actor-boyfriend George Hamilton are among the guests at a festive dinner party in Acapulco. They refuse comment on speculation about any future wedding. Other celebrities present include John Wayne, Dolores Del Rio, and Merle Oberon. BOWL GAMES In the Sugar Bowl, third-ranked Alabama goes against Nebraska. Stabler-to-Perkins passes give Alabama a wide edge and they win, 34 to 7. Meanwhile, in the Cotton Bowl, Georgia dominates Southern Methodist, 24 to 9. A 74-yard TD run by Kent Lawrence highlights the game. PACKERS-COWBOYS At Dallas, the Packers and Cowboys collide for the NFL Championship. Packer Quarterback Bart Starr throws four touchdown passes and title-game experience tells as Green Bay wins it after a stubborn battle by Dallas. Final score: Packers 34, Cowboys 27. CHIEFS-BILLS In Buffalo, the Bills face the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFL Championship. Dawson throws two touchdown passes, Mike Garrett scrambles for a third and the Chiefs win it, 31 to 7. They face the NFL Champions, the Packers, in the first "Super Bowl" game.
