Earthquake (Universal Newsreel, Jul 1967)
Description
The original release sheet reads: EARTHQUAKE Sixty known dead, hundreds injured as the second severe earthquake in less than a year rips across Turkey. Thousands of homes become rubble in a ten-day wave of earth tremors. Rescue workers probe wreckage and more bodies are expected to raise the death toll. MONSOON Monsoon rains bring local floods to the West Bengal district of India. It's a mixed blessing, ending a three-year drought. Thousands are homeless but fields hope to yield bumper crops. POWER PLANT The world's newest power plant is born in Labrador. In five years, its completion will harness the mighty Churchill River, supplying six million horsepower throughout eastern Canada. HIPPIES Hippies gather in usually staid Hyde Park, London, to preach love, peace, and legalized "pot." The "flower-power" group sports colorful costumes, posters, and props. COKES CLUB At his Dallas gymnasium, welterweight champ Curtis Cokes runs a personally-financed, integrated youth program. The kids, some 750 of them, are budding athletes, expert in boxing and track. FASHIONS London shows fashion accessories for the fall. Included are: Egyptian-influenced evening hats, bushels of boots, and matching jewelry for neck, ears, and mini-skirt-exposed knees! AUTO NEWS New York: A rail-bus for track-and-highway makes a test run. It's future use may cut the airport-to-city trip in half. Detroit: The electric auto continues to improve. Newest proto-types are maneuverable, silent, with trim interior lines.
