Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. GAS TANK EXPLOSION KILLS 62 AND INJURES 1500 IN RHINE VALLEY: NEUNKIRCHEN, GERMANY - Terrific blast wrecks iron works and part of factory town in worst holocaust in Saar history. Huge structure torn asunder and scrap metal blown for two miles. Workers’ residence section a shambles. Terror-stricken inhabitants flee. Hospitals filled with victims, as sad work of salvage brings additional bodies to light. 2. TESTS PROVE ARMY’S NEW MYSTERY BOMBER IS FASTEST IN WORLD: DAYTON, OH - In sub-zero weather, the Air Corps’ newest fighting ship, in all-metal, stream-lined “heavy” bombing plane, takes off with ease and does 200 miles-an-hour, 80 miles faster than its predecessors, making it the speediest war-bird on earth for long-range, big-scale air raids. It’s equipped with two 650 h.p. motors, and a glass-enclosed gunner’s turret. Thirty-eight of them are on the way for Uncle Sam’s military establishment. 3. SWEDEN WINS TITLE IN INTERNATIONAL SKI CHAMPIONSHIP MEET: INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA - A 40-kilometer ski-relay race between four-man teams representing eleven European countries, proves to be one of the most grueling endurance contests ever held. The ten-kilo trek over the rough mountain course causes many contestants to collapse. Hjalmar Bergstroem, anchorman for the Swedish team, comes in to set a team mark of 2 hours and 49 minutes for the new world record. 4. MODELS DISPLAY THE VERY LAST WORD IN CHIC CORSET STYLES: CHICAGO, IL - “Miss America, 1933,” according to the manufacturers of feminine “foundations” and what-d’ye-callems, has completely forsaken straight boyish lines and is going in for curves during the coming months, although the curves show a bit more control amid-ships than during the recent fall season. Pretty mannequins show the latest alluring trends in milady’s under-things, in an intimate fashion parade. 5. MISS VINSON TRAINS TO KEEP SKATING CROWN AS NATIONAL CHAMPION: CAMBRIDGE, MA - Maribel Vinson, America’s perennial “champ” fancy skater, who has been taking the title since she was a student at Radcliffe six years ago, demonstrates her continued skill and agility as she practices for this year’s championship ice whirl. 6. TIROL MOUNTAINEERS’ GAY STREET FROLIC IS FIRST SIGN OF SPRING: BERLIN, GERMANY - Expert peasant dancers come down from the North Tirolean Alps near Salzburg as vernal harbingers to entertain residents of the capital with their picturesque costumes and clever foot-work, stopping traffic as crowds gather to watch their open-air performance. 7. DEATH OF PROHIBITION SEEMS CERTAINTY AS HOUSE VOTES REPEAL: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Amid unprecedented scenes of enthusiasm, the House of Representatives, following similar action by the Senate last week, passes a resolution, 289 to 121, submitting to the States a new amendment to the Constitution, to be the 21st, repealing the present Prohibition Amendment.
