Money Stream Flows Steadily as Treasury Rushes New Currency (Universal Newsreel, Mar 1933)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. FIVE DEAD AS WORST FLOOD IN MANY YEARS SWEEPS OHIO VALLEY: CINCINNATI, OH - Appalling scenes of the inundated sections along the Ohio and Sciota Rivers, with business streets under water in scores of towns and cities, and thousands of families homeless or marooned by the swollen streams. The most wide-spread high-water disaster the Buckeye State has experienced since 1913. 2. INDIAN BRAVES FALL IN FIGHT BUT RISE TO TAKE ’EM ON AGAIN!: HUEJOTZINGO, MEXICO - A remarkable melee is staged in this little Puebla town in commemoration of a famous battle back in ’62, with Apaches, Suavas and Zapadores in fierce sham conflict, frequently interrupted by dancing and other festivities. Thousands are thrilled by the spectacle. 3. FAST RECORD SET IN OUTBOARD MOTOR RACE BY SIX-TIME WINNER!: MIAMI, FL - Break-neck speed and wildly pitching craft mark the hectic Biscayne Bay struggle of the nation’s speediest skipjacks for the Col. Green Trophy, with Walter Everett of Tulsa, OK, winning and setting a new time of 44.93 miles an hour. ODD BITS IN TODAY’S NEWS: 4. FISH BY THE MILLION BRING SILVER LINING/KELSO, WA - Unemployed men and women from miles around crowd the banks of the Columbia River during a record run of smelt. Twenty pounds a day per fisherman, for a month, means food for thousands. 5. GIGANTIC “JIG SAW” TESTS SKILL OF STARS/UNIVERSAL CITY, CA - Tom Brown, Dorothy Layton, Marion Shilling, June Clyde and Marian Shockley, Hollywood favorites, demonstrate a new variation of the picture-puzzle game. 6. SURPLUS FARM STUFFS MAKE NEW MOTOR FUEL/PEORIA, IL - Amazing demonstration of the manufacture and use of auto “gasoline” made from corn. It certainly goes to their cylinder-heads! 7. SONS OF ERIN MARCH IN GREAT PARADE TO HONOR PATRON SAINT: NEW YORK, NY - In the most brilliant turn-out in many years, with perfect weather, 20,000 Irishmen march in the annual St. Patrick’s procession, while 800,000 mass on the side-walks to cheer the long column in its colorful trek up Fifth Avenue. 8. MONEY STREAM FLOWS STEADILY AS TREASURY RUSHES NEW CURRENCY: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Remarkable scenes showing Two Billion Dollars in Federal Reserve Bank Notes being turned out by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to meet the current cash famine. William H. Woodin, Secretary of the Treasury, praises the efficiency of the plant, and tells how the resulting bills will relieve the situation. (LOCAL – CANADA) ALBERTA’S TEAM WINS CURLING MATCH.
