Italians Take Objectives, Consolidate Advance Posts (Universal Newsreel, Oct 1935)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1A. ITALIANS TAKE OBJECTIVES, CONSOLIDATE ADVANCE POSTS: WITH THE ITALIAN ARMY, ETHIOPIA - Il Duce’s Legions pour into the territory surrounding Adowa and Aksum, “Holy City” of the Empire. Thousands of black Askaris from Somaliland, led by white officers, head the forces penetrating deeper and deeper on enemy soil. Up-to-the-minute tanks, bristling with machine-guns, rumble over mountain roads and bump their way stubbornly across boulder-strewn valleys while bombing and scout ’planes keep a sharp lookout from overhead for straggling bands of Ethiopian irregulars. As the Italian war machine moves on, natives of the conquered area stand dumbly by, viewing the invaders with quiet curiosity, but showing neither fear nor unfriendliness. Detachments of troops swing over narrow roads, shouting stirring war songs in unison as they move up to occupy advance positions. Field artillery, manned by white and black troopers, is dragged into place for extensive maneuvers during a lull in the fighting as each unit of the mighty force holds itself in instant readiness either to repel an attack or continue the invasion. 1B. YOUNG FASCISTS HAIL DUCE: ROME, ITALY - Mussolini receives rousing acclaim from parading legions of Young Fascists as the youth organization celebrates its fifth anniversary. 2. CRACK TRAIN COMES TO GRIEF: GLENDALE, CA - A Southern Pacific flyer hits a heavy truck, throwing one of its locomotives from the rails and wrecking the second. 3. QUEEN MARY MODEL IN U.S.: NEW YORK, NY - Britain’s gigantic new super-liner arrives in effigy in American waters. The big model is a perfect reproduction of the vessel itself. 4. GOBBLERS FATTEN FOR FEAST: RAMONA, CA - Ten thousand turkeys strut their last glorious month in the autumn sunshine before giving their all to make a Thanksgiving holiday. 5. BREAK LION TEAM TO HARNESS: LOS ANGELES, CA - The California Zoological Society puts a pair of its leonine guests to work, hitching them to the zoo’s feed wagon. 6. NO TITLE: SOUTH BEND, IN - Notre Dame conquers Pittsburgh, 9 to 6. 7. BULLDOG SINKS NAVY ELEVEN: NEW HAVEN, CT - Sixty-one thousand spectators watch Yale win a desperate 7 to 6 football battle with the Middies.
