Ethiops Build Bomb-Proofs as Foreigners Flee Capital (Universal Newsreel, Oct 1935)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. ETHIOPS BUILD BOMB-PROOFS AS FOREIGNERS FLEE CAPITAL: ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA - The last Italian Consul leaves the country, passing through the city after a fourteen-day trek with his family through the wilderness from the interior. Local Customs officials hold up the refugees for twelve hours before escorting them to the Legation. Troops are rushed to the front in the train used by escaping whites as engineers construct a huge bomb-proof shelter in a hill overlooking the community. 2. CHIMP CHAMP ON GOLF LINKS: LOS ANGELES, CA - After a snack of pop and pretzels, a sporty simian tries a round of golf. His driving passes, but he’s a demon in a sand-trap, putting a strain on his mathematics when it comes to counting up the score. 3. F.D.R BACKS PRIVATE CHARITY: WASHINGTON, D.C. - The President pleads for greater support of private charitable organizations, asking each of his hearers to be “A Good Neighbor” and aid in the 1935 Mobilization for Human Needs in order to remove some of the relief burden from the Government. 4. ARMY FIGHTS FOUR-DAY FIRE: MALIBU HILLS, CA - A $10,000,000 brush and forest blaze, one of the most disastrous in the history of Southern California, sweeps over a 100-mile area, whipped by a high wind which balks the efforts of thousands, endangering the costly homes of the motion-picture colony. 5. TRI-PHIBIAN PLANE EXPLODES: WASHINGTON, D.C. - A strange new craft designed to travel on land and water and in the air takes fire during an official test, inflicting second-degree burns on the pilot inventor. Police yank the intrepid airman from his blazing machine in the nick of time. UNBEATEN GRID RANKS BREAK AS SEASON APPROACHES PEAK: 6. BALTIMORE, MD - Unleashing a terrific aerial attack, Notre Dame conquers Navy, 14-0, as 63,000 spectators cheer wildly. 7. NEW HAVEN, CT - In a delirious battle with the Bulldog before a throng of 47,000, the Army Mule rides rough-shod over a plucky Yale eleven, winning 14 to 8. 8. MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Stamina and fighting fury count for Minnesota in the second half, resulting in a 21 to 13 victory over Northwestern in the Gophers’ Big Ten opener.
