Description
The original release sheet reads: 1A. ETHIOPIAN DEFENSES GROW: ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA - Artillery and machinegun detachments, composed of regular native troops, push out from the capital to establish bases around the city in expectation of an early attack by Mussolini’s forces. 1B. RESERVISTS SAIL FOR ITALY: NEW YORK, NY - Scores of Italian subjects give up their American homes, returning to their native land for service with Il Duce’s army in Ethiopia. President Roosevelt’s warning cuts the S.S. Roma’s passenger list sharply. 2. GEESE NEAR DEATH AT FALLS: NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO, CANADA - Thousands of wild birds land in the river above the huge cascade. The swift current carries the weary geese to the brink where feebly beating wings save them from destruction many times as they return repeatedly to the stream. 3. UNCLE SAM BUILDS UP NAVY: PHILADELPHIA, PA - Thirty thousand spectators watch the super-destroyers Shaw and Cassin slide down the ways at the League Island Navy Yard in a double launching that adds two fine new fighting ships to America’s “first line of defense.” 4. DRIVE ON ILLEGAL TOBACCO: BOSTON, MA - Government agents descend on a bootleg tobacco factory, confiscating and destroying large quantities of packaged “smokes” bearing no tax stamps, and padlocking the plant. 5. PEDAL-PUSHERS IN ROAD RACE: CHICAGO, IL - Push-bike enthusiasts from a large group of Middle-Western States compete in a thrilling revival of the Amateur Bicycle League of America’s annual grind, the leaders crossing the line in a close finish. 6. SHAKEUP ALTERS GOVERNMENT: VIENNA, AUSTRIA - A huge procession of Chancellor Schuschnigg’s adherents marks the expulsion of Major Fey from the Cabinet. Prince Starhemberg mobilizes thousands of Heimwehr troops at St. Poelten to prevent an outbreak by the ousted Minister’s followers. 7. SWEEPS WINNERS CELEBRATE: PORT CHESTER, NY - Holders of a winning sweepstake ticket on the English Cambridgeshire receive their good fortune jubilantly, with a Five-and-Ten store clerk planning to use her share to go to college. 8. MERE GIRL WRESTLES TIGER: THOUSAND OAKS, CA - Eighteen-year-old Laura Roth pits her 135 lbs. against the mauling tactics of a 450-lb. Bengal tiger. A gentle pat from the huge beast is enough to knock the girl down, but she comes up smiling. 9. ROMAN POLICE IN FIELD DAY: ROME, ITALY - Mussolini reviews the ancient capital’s guardians on the tenth anniversary of the establishment of their modern organization. The policemen exhibit the results of remarkable training in stunts on horseback and motorcycles.
